CODA’s Special Interest Groups have been established to bring industry together around key decommissioning topics, enabling more focused collaboration across priority areas.
Established in response to industry feedback, these groups support more targeted engagement on the challenges and opportunities shaping decommissioning in Australia.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are structured, topic-specific forums formed in collaboration with CODA partners. They provide a space for operators, supply chain, and research organisations to come together and:
Each group is shaped by its participants, ensuring discussions remain practical and relevant to current industry needs.
Additional groups may be established over time in response to partner priorities. CODA’s initial Special Interest Groups are focused on:
The Women in Decommissioning Special Interest Group (SIG) will provide a structured forum to support connection, visibility and collaboration across Australia’s decommissioning sector. It is designed to strengthen career pathways, knowledge sharing and mentoring opportunities for women working across the multidisciplinary decommissioning workforce, including engineering, environment, regulation, marine, logistics, commercial and related fields. The group will also support broader industry capability by improving visibility of talent and encouraging more connected participation across all levels of experience.
While focused on supporting women in decommissioning, the SIG is open to individuals of all genders across CODA’s partner network to help strengthen understanding, visibility and collaboration across the decommissioning sector.
Focused on the identification, handling, and management of hazardous materials across decommissioning activities. This group brings together operators, supply chain, and specialists to improve consistency, share experience, and support safe and practical approaches to managing contaminants.
Centred on well plug and abandonment (P&A), this group explores technical, regulatory, and operational considerations to support safe, efficient, and sustainable outcomes. It provides a forum to share learnings, discuss emerging approaches, and strengthen alignment across the industry.
Focused on the planning and delivery of decommissioning projects, this group looks at areas such as cost, schedule, contracting, and risk. It enables participants to share experience and explore approaches that can support more effective project execution.
SIGs form part of CODA’s broader approach to strengthening collaboration across the decommissioning sector. They create dedicated spaces for deeper engagement, with insights helping to inform wider initiatives where appropriate.
Participation in Special Interest Groups is available to CODA partners. Participation in our Women in Decommissioning group is open to anyone.
