It is suitable for personnel working directly in decommissioning, those in related areas seeking a better understanding of the process, as well as individuals outside oil and gas operations who want a foundational knowledge of how wells are responsibly decommissioned.

You will gain a practical understanding of the well lifecycle, key steps in well decommissioning, cost and risk considerations, and applicable regulatory frameworks and global best practices. This module provides participants with an understanding of well decommissioning and the complexities that can be encountered. It is particularly useful for team members who may not be directly involved in well decommissioning but need a foundational level of knowledge to support informed discussions, planning, and decision-making across the organisation.

No prior knowledge or technical experience in well decommissioning is needed. This is an introductory module, and learners are not required to be engineers or specialists.

After enrolment, you will receive an email confirmation with instructions on how to access the course materials. You will have full access to the module for 3 months from the date of enrolment.

There is no formal exam or assessment. Instead, you’ll find interactive questions throughout the module designed to reinforce and check your understanding as you go.

When you complete the module, you will receive an email with a digital Certificate of Completion to acknowledge your learning achievement.
